Another Place, Another Time

    Chapter One

The night seemed brighter than usual for Candy. Maybe it was due to the glowing full moon or the darkening sky displaying the starry constellations all at once. She had given up on trying to get some sleep and was feeling strangely restless. She couldn't decide between the French poem she had tried to memorize all evening or Terry's teasing remark about her blushing each time he mentioned the kiss he had unexpectedly given her.

A discreet tap on the balcony window of her dorm room startled her and she turned her head in surprise to see Terry's silhouette. She heard him whisper.

    "Candy!"

Candy quickly rose from her bed and tiptoed towards him. "Terry, are you drunk?"

"No, silly. Let me in," he answered with a small chuckle.

Candy hesitated for a moment, then with an anxious sigh, she opened the balcony doors.

"What took you so long, Lady Freckles?" he teased.

She glanced at him curiously. "Terry, why are you here? Don't you know what time it is? If the Sisters found out..."

"Yes, I do know the time," he answered in a drawl while gazing at her form. "...It's time to be alone...just you and I..."

"Terry!" Candy cried out in exasperation and stepped back. A strange shiver of excitement ran down her spine.

Terry laughed softly at her reaction. "There's nothing to worry about Candy! I've been to your room this late before! Remember?" He added with a wink.

"You were drunk and you were hurt back then!" Candy argued while folding her arms in front of her. "And I was very worried about you!"

Terry grinned and gave her a reckless look. "Alright. Maybe I should go and get drunk, get into another fight and I'll be right back!"

"Oh no you're not!" Candy blurted out, then glared at him when she saw the teasing look in his eyes.

"Then you don't want me to leave?" he said softly, his look becoming tender and questioning.

"Of course, I want you to leave...I mean..." Candy said hesitantly, feeling confused and torn.

Terry closed the balcony doors behind him and turned slowly to Candy.

Candy looked away shyly, her cheeks burning red. "Terry...I..." She stammered, unable to find the words.

He reached out, grasped her shoulders gently and pulled her to him. "Candy...you do like me, don't you?" he asked in a more somber tone.

His question caused Candy to glance upward in surprise. She didn't expect him to be so blunt and serious all of a sudden.

"Candy..." Terry whispered and his fingertips began to slowly caress her cheek. "You're skin's so soft..."

She stood speechless and began to tremble at his touch. Then she glanced at him shyly. "Terry...what are you doing?"

"I couldn't sleep...I couldn't stop thinking about you. Do you think about me too, Candy?" he continued, his voice tender and mesmerizing.

Candy blushed and looked away. "Well...I...I do sometimes..."She admitted, feeling embarassed.

"Hmmm..." Terry chuckled softly. "And how often is...sometimes?"

His probing questions left Candy too flustered to answer coherently. His very nearness confused her emotionally and she could barely think! Finally, she asked, "Terry...these questions...why do you want to know?"

"I have to know," he answered solemnly. "I want to know how you feel about me..." He raised his other hand to her cheek until he gently cupped her face, his eyes gazing tenderly into her questioning eyes.

"Oh, Terry..." she whispered, shaking her head. "I don't know what to say..."

"Let me help you. You don't have to say anything," Terry assured her. "Just nod or shake your head, okay?"

Candy looked up and saw his mischievous smile. "Oh you...Terry! You're always joking with me! I can never tell if you're being serious or not!" She moved abruptly away from him and pouted.

"I'm being serious, Candy!" He grinned, his eyes twinkling mischievously.

Candy gave him a doubtful look and jutted her chin defiantly. "How can I believe you now?"

"You'll see!" His voice was soft and teasing. "Do you remember when I first kissed you at Scotland? We were dancing in front of the lake..."

Candy blushed as she recalled their first kiss. It was totally unexpected and produced more of a shock and resentment than passion and romance. "Yes..." She nodded, frowning at him.

"And do you remember slapping me?" he reminded her, his voice soft and teasing.

"Of course I do! I still haven't forgiven you for that kiss! It was not a very gentlemanly thing to do!" She answered with a small pout.

Terry chuckled softly. "Then you don't regret slapping me?"

She sighed and shrugged her shoulders unsurely. "I do...just a little..."

Terry leaned forward until his face was only inches away from hers. "So...if I kissed you right now...would you slap me again?"

Candy's eyes widened with anticipation. His face was so close, she could barely breathe. She watched, mesmerized as he lowered his head further until his lips hovered slightly over hers.

"If you knew I was going to kiss you again...would you finally let yourself enjoy it, Candy?" He whispered softly, his eyes burning seductively into hers.

Candy told herself that she should pull away and break free from his tempting gaze and lips... but something inside her, a curious excitement, immobilized her. She could barely breathe.

"I...I" she stammered, feeling confused and flustered at his daring nearness.

"Tell me, Lady Freckles," he prodded gently. "Do you want me to kiss you? I don't want to get slapped again!"

"Terry..."she whispered, her eyes locked on his lips, her breathing suddenly becoming fast and shallow.

"Tell me you want me to kiss you, Candy..." Terry insisted softly. He moved his head closer until his lips was barely grazing hers.

Terry's eyes were intensely fixed on the luminous emerald pools gazing back at him. He held his breath in anticipation, hoping to hear the words that would move him to engulf her in a passionate embrace. His body ached with the desire to hold her closer and he eagerly sensed that she felt the same.

"Terry..." She whispered his name again and licked her dry lips. Her voice sounded like an ache to her own ears.

Terry pulled her even closer into his embrace until she could feel the warmth of his breath against her lips.

Candy's lips quivered in anticipation. Her fiery emerald eyes grew hazy as she thought about what she was about to do. She had forced herself to suppress her attraction for Terry for so long since their first kiss. But now that he was here... alone in her room... her lips suddenly ached to touch his again.

As if sensing her quiet submission, Terry slowly placed his hands around her waist and brought her closer against his frame.

Candy drew a gasp and held her breath, her resistance fading as she felt his masculine length against her. Her hands fluttered against his chest, but she didn't push him away. She could feel the hard warmth of his skin underneath his shirt and the beating of his heart against her palms.

    "Kiss me then..."she said softly.

Terry didn't hesitate for another second. His passion fell upon her like a storm. His lips savored hers gently at first, as if he were sipping the sweet nectars of the first dew found on the morning flower.

Stunned, Candy couldn't respond at first. Instead, she closed her eyes and allowed herself to feel the sweet pressure of his lips as they slowly caressed her own.

Candy moaned softly when his tongue softly delved into her mouth, lightly brushing against hers. She moved her lips hesitantly to respond and began to imitate his movements, her small tongue brushing gently against his.

This sparked an urgency in Terry that he desperately tried to restrain, but failed. He groaned in response and pulled her even closer into his embrace.

Candy wound her arms around his neck, arching herself closer to his chest. Her fingers threaded through his thick, dark hair, pulling his head closer.

Terry felt a fire deep inside him burning strongly, taking over his reason, or what was left of it. He was now hanging by a thread. How far should they go, he wondered. As far as he so desperately wanted to?

Candy's senses were overwhelmed with a spiraling heat rising from deep within her innocent soul. She was only conscious of the moment, only aware of the desire building inside of her that begged to be assuaged.

Their lips began to move urgently against one another and their kiss deepened into a passionate hunger. Candy opened her mouth to him, wanting to taste him again and again.

Terry slowly stepped forward and gently pushed her onto the bed. God, how he wanted her! He was fast losing all reason, forgetting all the codes of gentlemanly conduct and nobility.

Suddenly Candy broke off the kiss, breathing hard, as she felt her head against the pillow.

"Terry..." she cried out in a dazed voice. Her eyes met his, still hazy with desire. "What's happening to me...to us?"

"What do you think's happening, Candy?" Terry whispered, his lips brushing hers lightly.

"I...I never felt this way before," she admitted, feeling shy and confused.

"It's okay, Candy" Terry's voice was tender. He himself was still in a daze, feeling out of breath and desperate to continue the passionate moment.

Candy touched his face, her finger trailing his lips...those warm lips that first sparked the flames within her.

Terry opened his mouth and nibbled on her finger gently. She gasped softly in surprise as if an electric current ran down her spine through her fingertips.

"Candy..."Terry groaned, his restrained desire for her showing.

"Oh Terry..." she whispered, her needs mirroring his own. She closed her eyes and raised her eager lips to him.

His lips fell upon hers in complete abandonment. The thread was broken, his reason fled. She could feel his weight upon her and felt the hard urgency in his body.

Terry's lips explored her neck, bestowing a trail of fiery kisses. Candy was becoming more aroused and her breathing grew faster as he nibbled on the soft, creamy skin at the side of her neck. His lips continued their downward trend until they reached the buttons of her nightgown.

Slowly, his hand moved across the buttons and he raised his head to look tenderly at her."Candy..." he said softly. His tone was questioning if she was prepared for the next level.

"Terry?" Her eyes fluttered open and she stared into his dark eyes, still hazy with desire.

"This is it Candy...Do you want to continue?" he said huskily.

Candy held her breath. She felt torn and uncertain about what to do. Her body still tingled from the passion they just shared and there was an aching pit in her that demanded satisfaction...but she was afraid of where the fire may lead. She knew that if she didn't stop now, she could never turn back, never stop needing him. And Terry was lovingly giving her a choice.

"Terry...I'm sorry," she whispered, shaking her head.

Terry opened his eyes completely and glanced at her lovingly.

She buried her head in his chest. "I...I cant...I'm sorry..."

"I understand, Candy," he said tenderly and bestowed a light kiss on her freckled nose.

She could hear the beating of his heart...steady and strong...for her.

Gently, he pulled her away from him, leaving Candy cold and wanting. "Candy, I know you need time. I know you need to be sure of me...of my love for you...I do love you, Candy"

She looked at him surprised, her eyes growing misty. "You....love me?

"Of course, Lady Freckles!" He chucked softly. "Since the first day I met you on the ship. You never left my mind... or my heart"

"Oh Terry!" she cried out overwhelmingly as tears began to fall.

Terry reached out and caressed her cheek, his thumb moving softly against her lower lip. Candy shivered with renewed excitement at his touch. God, how she wanted him!

"Candy, I know you need to go slow and get used to this..."

Candy nodded her head slowly. She felt she needed the time as well.

"Candy, there's a secret book in the library. It's been there for a long time now. It's called the Kama Sutra."

    "Kama Sutra?" She said curiously.

"Yes. I doubt if any of the Sisters know that it's there, but it has many things in it about love, the physical aspects of love. Why don't you look at it, read it. It will teach you about the arts of lovemaking." he winked, his eyes twinkling mischievously.

"Lovemaking?" Candy's eyes widened, and she blushed.

Terry chuckled at her reaction. "Candy, lovemaking can be a really a wonderful thing."

"And how would you know?" Candy questioned. Her eyes narrowed suspiciously with a hint of jealousy.

    "I've done it many times!"

"Oh you!" Candy said, outraged and pushed him away from her.

Terry laughed. "Okay, okay! I've only done it once."

"Terry! You...you did?!" She said in shock. "Once?" She felt an ache of jealousy beginning to form in the core of her stomach. The thought of Terry with another woman was unbearable!

"Don't worry, I won't tell you the details," he chuckled softly.

"I don't want to know about it!"

"Don't you want to know who it was?" he continued to tease.

Candy turned her head away. "Certainly not," she pouted.

Terry sensed she needed reassuring and reached out to hold her in his embrace. "Don't worry, it was no one you know and no one I loved."

"Then why did you make love to her?" demanded Candy.

"I decided to do it once with someone I wasn't afraid to lose," he explained gently.

Candy's eyes softened at the tenderness in his voice.

His eyes grew serious, almost sad. "Also, at that time, I needed to feel as if I didn't need anyone....I wanted to feel like an adult, like I was a man...even though I wasn't exactly... yet..."

Candy reached out and cupped Terry's cheek with her hand. "I understand, Terry."

He smiled softly. "The important thing is, she didn't steal my heart!"

"She didn't?" Candy held her breath.

    "Do you know why?"

Candy shook her head, her eyes locked with his.

"She didn't have any freckles!" He explained, his gaze loving and tender.

"Oh Terry!" Candy smiled, her eyes sparkling with unshed tears.

Terry gave her a quick kiss on the top of the nose and moved away from her. "I should go back to my room now. Go to the library tomorrow and read about the Kama Sutra!"he teased.

"Terry..." Candy held on to his shirt, almost involuntarily.

He stopped his movement and glanced at her with surprise. "Already? You want to continue?"

"Oh, stop teasing!" Candy pouted and released him.

Terry took hold of her hand and placed it against his heart. "We shall continue our rendezvous tomorrow night, my love!"

Candy smiled wistfully and nodded. "I may even leave the balcony doors open for you," she teased in return.

Terry laughed softly."Make sure no one else comes in!"

Before Candy could reply, he had already left. She leaned back in her bed, suddenly missing his presence. A part of her regretted not letting him stay longer. "Candy, what's wrong with you?" she scolded herself for the thought. She would definitely not be able to sleep tonight! Terry had aroused passions within her that she never knew she had or believed would ever surface! She thought about the book that Terry wanted her to read... the Kama Sutra and her curiousity was suddenly piqued. She wondered what it would be like to make love to Terry. The thought of it ignited a passionate flame inside her and she buried her face into her pillow in frustration. "Go to sleep, Candy!" she forced herself. The Kama Sutra can wait until the morning...
