A Very Important Reconciliation
By Sweetcandy
This story begins at
the end of the Candy Candy series.
Terry’s housekeeper Sharon suddenly became a very important person in his life.
He would frequently return home after she had left for the day to find cookies
baked for him or a casserole in the oven ready for him to have for dinner. She
seemed to care for him in away that no one else had besides Candy. Her cooking
skills were wonderful too! He had lost a lot of weight over the past few months
due to his poor eating habits so this helped him put a few pounds on.
She always called him Terrence and looked at him as almost seeing through his
façade to the depths of his soul. One evening after returning from Suzanna’s
house he found her still at his apartment. She saw his grief and asked him what
was wrong. He found himself telling her everything about Suzanna and her
mother’s plan for them to marry. Sharon asked him if he loved Suzanna and he
said, “No – I only care for her as a brother would a sister.” Sharon looked at
him and said, “Well then son you should not marry her.” He then explained
Suzanna’s mother’s constant guilt trips and pleas to her. She said, “It matters
not as you will never be happy in that type of marriage.”
Sharon hugged Terrence that evening before she left and told him her address
if he should ever need her. Terrence realized that she was like a mother to
him. She kissed him on the cheek before leaving that night. He wept after she
left as he knew that she loved him like his own mother didn’t.
Four days passed before Suzanna’s mother started badgering him again – that
night he went to Sharon’s home devastated by the time he arrived at her door.
He couldn’t believe the shack she lived in and was determined to have her come
and live with him. When he got there she asked him in, he stated then and there
that she was to move into his large apartment with him. Sharon revealed to him
that she owed the owner a few months back rent. Terry said, “Take me to the
proprietor.” The owner fussed greatly about Sharon moving without proper notice
until Terry threw a wad of $100 bills at him. He helped Sharon pack up her few
things and off they went. On the way home Terrence explained to her what had
transpired with Suzanna’s mother that evening, Sharon said, “Let’s go there
now.”
When they arrived Suzanna was up in the library when the butler brought Terry
and Sharon in. Suzanna was happy to meet Sharon as Terry had told her about Sharon and how she cared for Terry like a Mother. Suzanna’s mother came in and started
pressuring Terry – Sharon stood up and told Suzanna’s mother to mind her own
business. Terry was shocked – never having seen this forceful side of Sharon. Sharon was not a tall lady – just average height. She had long blonde hair and
brown eyes – she was so easy to trust as she had such a selfishlessness way
about her. Sharon looked at Suzanna and said, “Do you really want to marry
someone who loves another Suzanna? “ Terry was so shocked at this statement as
he had never told Sharon about Candy. Suzanna was embarrassed, she looked
downward and said, “I love Terry but no I really only want to marry him if he
loves me.” Terry felt a weight lift off him and told Suzanna that he would
always love and care for her as a sister.
On the way home Terry looked at Sharon and said, “You were really something
back there, how did you know about my love for Candy?” Sharon said,” I know.”
and left it at that.
Weeks passed and Terry and Sharon settled into a nice regiment. She called him
Terrence and he began calling her Mother. They had regular meals times and it
seemed to Terry that he had the family life he always had dreamed of.
Terry’s work became his life, he was a star again. He had to turn down many
parts due to his popularity. He still felt an aching loss in his life though
without Candy.
One day Sharon was out grocery shopping when a telegram came for her. He signed
for it and was surprised to see the return address – Pony’s Home. What
connection could Sharon have with Pony’s Home he wondered? He asked her about
it as soon as she got home. She looked deep into his soul and said, "Terrence
we love the same person that is at Pony’s Home – Candy is my daughter. Sister
Pony has kept in touch with me for all of Candy’s life. I plan to travel to see
her and hope for a reconciliation with her soon. Will you go with me to
reconcile with Candy also?”
Terry stunned by this turn events smiled and said,” Oh yes let us go tomorrow!”
At Pony’s Home
Terry and Sharon sent a telegram to Sister Pony announcing their arrival on the
morrow. Sister Pony told Candy that her mother was coming to visit. Candy was
ecstatic and dressed in her green dress. Sister Pony explained to Candy that
her mother had kept in contact with her all these years. She hadn’t been able
to care for Candy financially and that is why she left Candy at Pony’s Home.
When Candy heard a car drive up she glanced outside to see Terry at the wheel –
shocked and bewildered she ran to him. She hoped with all of her might that his
return would mean they would finally pledge their love to each other.
He picked her up and swirled her around stopping only to kiss her with all of
his love. He smiled and said, “Candy I love you and want you to marry me.”
She said, “Oh yes Terry I will marry you!”
Terry said, “Candy I want you to meet a very important person to me –my housekeeper, I just found out yesterday that she is your Mother, I have begun to care for her as my Mother also.”
Candy turned and looked into Sharon’s sweet face and said, “Hello mother, I am so glad to meet you and have you be here with my true love Terry.”
Candy extended the circle of her and Terry’s arms to include her mother. Oh what a happy day this was for Terry and Candy! Candy had tears of gratitude streaming down her face – she finally had Terry back and a gentle mother too!
