The Candy Candy Final Final Story
Candy left George behind outside and walked into the villa by Lakewood estate. Her heart filled with anticipation and apprehension. Following George's instructions, she walked into the library, where she found a single sofa seat with a high back that was placed before the panoramic glass window. The late afternoon sunlight was shining through, creating a long, slanted shadow of the chair on the floor. It must be the Great Uncle William who was in that seat.
"Uncle William, this is Candy. I want to thank you for everything that you've done for me over the years. There are no words that can describe how grateful I am. You've given me so much. However, even for all that you've done for me, I cannot marry Neil. Please forgive me for not obeying your order to marry him."
"Candy. Is this all you have to say to me?" said the voice from the chair.
The figure stood up from the seat. Sunlight shone on his silhouette.
"Candy! Are you out of your mind? How can you even think I would order you to marry Neil. I would do such thing! What kind of person do you think I am?!"
Candy gasped and placed her hand on her face.
"Oh. Of course you wouldn't do that Albert. Now that I know you are the Great Grandpa William, I am sure you did not arrange for me to marry Neil. After all, you know that I'm still in love with Terry. You're the one who sent me a present to trick me into going to Rockstown so I can see Terry again."
"Yes. I did. But I guess that didn't work. So it's time for you to forget Terry and move on with your life."
"But I can't forget him. I still love him."
"No worries, we'll fix that!"
"We'll go horseback riding!"
Albert grabbed her hand and took her to the stable, where a white horse is waiting. He climbed onto the horse, then extended out his hand to her to pull her up. Accepting his hand, Candy climbed onto the horse. He pulled the reins and the horse began to gallop into the forest. The sunlight felt good on her shoulders. She thought of the day of the May Festival, when she clung onto Terry while the horse galloped through the forest.
With Albert's strong arms around her (but careful not touching her shoulders), she felt the horse slowed down. She closed her eyes, feeling the wind. The wind breezing through her face carried with it the fresh smell of....
Sniff. Sniff. "What's that smell?" Candy asked, wrinkling her nose.
"Oh, I'm sorry. That's horse manure. Horses do that sometimes. They just go the bathroom whenever they need, even when they are in motion."
Candy covered her nose and mouth with her hand. The horse was still answering the call of nature, and the stink was unbearable.
"Sorry, Candy. I guess I shouldn't have fed it canned corn beef."
"But canned corn beef wasn't invented until the 1940s," Alexa said.
"I think back in the 70s Mizuki didn't check all these facts and details," said Sunnyrainbow.
The pungent smell permeated the air. Candy felt like she was gagging. She wanted to tell him that she couldn't take it anymore, but could not bear to open her mouth for fear of sucking in more foul air. She looked at Albert, who looked helplessly back at her with his clear soft eyes without saying a word. She understood then that he shared her feelings. Sometimes, words need not be said to convey each others feelings.
I must get off this horse. Candy thought to herself. She grabbed the reins from Albert, stopped the horse, and jumped down onto the ground. Concerned, Albert immediately jumped off the horse too. Candy started to run away. He ran after her, reaching out his hand to her. But the horse neighed, and began trotting away in the opposite direction. He quickly pulled his hand back and raced toward the horse.
"Hey! Come back here!!! Come back here!!!!" Albert said, chasing the horse into the woods.
Once she was far enough away from Albert and the horse, Candy stopped and sucked in and let out deep breaths. All thoughts of Terry and the May Festival had vanished.
A week later, Candy arrived at her engagement party. There were many guests. Who were they? Who the hell knew. Sumptuous food spread out on the long table. Aunt Elroy and Sarah Lagan looked at her with spiteful eyes.
"What took you so long?" Neil asked. "You're late."
Candy shoved him aside and declared, "I want everyone to know that, I, Candice White Ardlay, will not be engaged to Neil."
"What? What are you saying?" said Aunt Elroy.
"It is true what Candy is saying. She will not be engaged to Neil." Everyone turned to the direction of the voice, from where Albert made his dramatic grand entrance.
"Ladies and Gentleman, I am William Albert Ardlay. Candy will not be engaged to Neil. I cannot let my adopted child be married against her wishes."
Everyone in the room let out a collective gasp.
This is Uncle William? He's soooooo cute! Eliza thought to herself. I must have him! I'm sure he'll fall in love with me as soon as he meets me and see what a great lady I am!
"That's gross," Alexa said. "That's incest."
'It's ok. Incest is very common in Japanese manga and literature," said Aniko.
Everyone in the room is now in utter confusion. The crowd was whispering.
"Is that Great Uncle William?"
"He's so young!"
Finally, everyone understood the situation, and the band began to play music again.
"Oh no!" cried Archie.
"What's wrong, Archie," Candy asked.
"My shirt! My beautiful shirt! Look, the seams are coming apart. I just bought it from France. The thread is gone!"
"Not to worry, Archie. The thread is not gone. See. It's held together by an invisible thread."
"Hmmm.....Mizuki is mentioning the invisible thread again. I wonder what that means?" said Anneth.
"Maybe Archie's shirt and Candy are bond together by an invisible thread too? Now we have another proof that the invisible thread is not exclusively Albert," said Grecialica.
"I will look up the word "thread" in Japanese and channel Mizuki's mind, and then I'll come back and tell you what it all means, including how to write 'thread' in Kanji, hiragana, and katakana," said Holly.
"Candy," Albert whispered to her, "go wait for me near the lake. We'll have our secret meetings there."
Candy smiled and ran toward the door.
"Wait!---" Neil cried out. His hand reached out to her, but stopped in mid-air. He turned around and began crying in his mother's embrace. "They took away my Candy. I want my Candy back!!! Bwwwaaahhhh."
"It's ok, honey, it's ok. We'll buy you more candy...."
Candy climbed onto the top of a tree by the lake. She looked out at the expansive view for a long time, searching for Albert. Finally, she saw him coming toward her.
"Over here, Albert! I'm over here!" she called out to him.
Albert headed toward the direction of her voice, not realizing that Eliza was following him.
"Please climb up here, Albert!"
"Ok, coming!" said Albert. He joined Candy at the top of the tree, and they talked and laughed about what just happened at the engagement party. Beneath the tree, Eliza watched them with angry eyes.
I will not forgive you, Candy. Albert's mine. He is not for a low class girl like you.
"See, I told you so," Holly said. "I told you Albert will marry Eliza."
"Does that mean Albert and Candy got together in the end?" Miracolo asked.
