Candy Onitarou (キャンディ 鬼太郎)
"Candy Eyeball" Honestly, how does one explain something like this? From the little translation I could gather, this Candy parody is based on the 1950's Japanese anime/manga series Onitarou "Gegege No Kitarou" created by Shigeru Mizuki. A nice summary about this series is found in wikipedia, where you can match these bizarre "spirit-monsters" (yokai) in this ghost story to the characters of Candy Candy in this manga parody! For starters, Candy represents "Medama Oyajii", the miniature eyeball ghost and Terry is portrayed as "Nezumi Otoko", the ratman. In this manga parody, he looks more like an onionhead, but that's just my humble opinion. As an interesting side note, the voice actor "Kei Tomiyama" who dubbed the Japanese voice of Terry also dubbed "Nexumi Otoko" in the 1980's anime of Gegege No Kitarou! There are 16 volumes
in this Candy Onitarou series and it took a decade to complete
(August 1996 to August 2006). The author and illustrator appears
to be あすきなまこ (not
sure how that would translate in english). The first 5 volumes illustrate
Candy Oyajii's childhood. Volumes 6 to 11 follows her school
days in the Academy with Terry Otoko while the last 5 (Volumes 12 to 16)
focus on her her nursing career and relationship and Terry Otoko's
acting career. The ending of this series is truly
an eye- popping surprise! The Cast of CC (Creepy Characters)
